Sunburst Youth Camp DAY 1 and 2 and results =]

SUNBURST YOUTH CAMP SINGAPORE 2008 =D

As many of YOU might not know, I,

ABDUL AZIM BIN HAJI ABDUL KASSIM,

was lucky enough to be selected for this!

Yeap thats the LOGO. Its on my bag WHICH I proudly wear eventhough it aint COOL =p Well its Orange, Black and White like a Tiger so it aint really that bad yknow =]

Okay, what this camp is organised by STEP - Singapore Technologies Endownment Programme. STEP is a charitable organization set up in 1997 to contribute to the development of the community and this camp is one of their projects to achieve this.

Basically, the SYC's aims are to build bridges (NOT LITERALLY U DUMBASS=P) by connecting the youth across Asia ... Singapore is connected with Johore, Malaysia though ... Aneway =p SYC 2008 would have spent a week together making friends, understanding each others' culture and have an unforgettable experience in Singapore!

There are only 8 students chosen to represent Brunei for this camp and they are:-

GIRLS

Syaffiinnaaz, Nurul Syifa, Evelyn and Arifah.

Syaffiinnaaz is an upper six student from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Othman of Tutong who is now waiting for her A level results.

Nurul Syifa is a former Maktab Duli student who moved to Jerudong International School by a government scholarship and is now in ...

ACTUALLY IDK=p hahaa. How does JIS system work aneway, I mean MD's A level is two years ryte? While JIS is from September till the next year's November.

RIGHT?

Evelyn is from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Ali of Belait and ... Gong Xi Fa Cai =p

Arifah is from Maktab Sains and along with Syaffiinnaaz, she is also awaiting her results.

GUYS

Hilmi, Amirul and I.

Hilmi is also from Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina Othman of Tutong and is waiting for his results.

Amirul just moved from the Berakas Sixth Form Centre and is now at Maktab Duli.

U know me *winks =D

and yes I didnt forget you YDP=p

Norul Alhakim, Delegate leader.

With Amirul, he is studying at Maktab Duli.

--------------------------------------------------------------

If you are thinking we are just chosen randomly or ada connection or something, we're not ... except Amirul haha=p

For Alhakim, Syifers and I, we had to go through an interview at Maktab Duli conducted by Cikgu Joanna. Then we passed that one and then had another interview at the Ministry of Education at Ong Sum Ping. It aint easy, I was actually put as a Sub and LUCKILY, the Maktab Sains guy got a scholarship =P so Arifah and I got selected instead XD

Nonetheless,

Together we are the Brunei delegates to the Singapore =D

Led by Cikgu Amal Noriyah, our chaperone.

Ayte, this is gonna be one of my grandslam posts so just get ready to look at tons of pictures yeah =D

DAY ONE

Around 7am, we congregated (BEKUMPUL BAH=P) at the BIA with our OH-SO-CRAPPY uniform. Okay the guys okaylah, I dont get the girls' dress though. Only problem about us guys was that our pants was TOO TIGHT XD

We read the doa and bam bam boom

We arrived. There to greet us was the Singapore ACE Christine Low and Singapore delegates Kamal, Ryan and Sarah =]
We didnt take pictures when we arrived but it was something like this.

Singapore delegates led by LYNUS the Lioness welcoming the Cambodian delegates.

Still TAK FAHAM?

Its 1am now, I wanna sleep =( I hate u readers ... HAHA joke =p

Afterwards, we went to the RELC Hotel ... okay for the 1st day, practically just did lots of SHOPPING=P Brunei were lucky, we GOT TIME.

The Thais came late so NO shopping for you guys. Boo hoo =p

Then that night we had our welcoming briefing by the SYC Committee. Honestly, these Singaporeans, they are the master of public speaking man! Unlike in Brunei where the speeches makes u sleep =p

HAHA OUCH! Okay not all okay not all =p Im not that good myself =p

The committee announced that unfortunately, the Pakistan delegates cannot make it due to some problems. Too bad for you dudes=p The only countries involve this year are :-

Brunei

Cambodia

China

India

Indonesia

Kazakhstan

Laos

Malaysia

Myanmar

The Philippines

Thailand

Vietnam

AND NOW, COMES THE FUNS STUFF!!!

DAY TWO

On our second day there, we had an Outward Bound Challenge at this Island called Pulau Ubin. Its my first time being in an outward bound challenge so yea NERVOUS AKO LANG=p

Aneway, since there was A LOT OF US, we were all put in coachs and groups. I was in coach B, the BEST COACH and group 3, the BEST GROUP =p

Thats Suhaimi holding the label =D

We had to take a ferry to the Island

I told you ramai orang

I was one of the LUCKY ones to get on this AWESOME, HIGH TECH FERRY =D

While these dudes got the low class ones =p

Dyu see how low class that is =p

haha crap, I like their ferry=p

When we arrived there, we were assembled according to our groups. So we sat in circles and the Singaporeans delegates started things off.

Ruchi from India and Nurul Huda from Singapore.

GILAAAAA, Ruchi looks like a shampoo hair model! Yknow like those girls with those silky hair u see on tv ... aneway =p Well Huda along with Kenny, Edmund, Monil, PJ and Jamie, the Singaporeans delegates wanted us to introduce ourselves.

Yeah like that =D

But to make things interesting, after someone introduces their name, the dude after dude has to say his name and the name of the dude before him.

GET IT? Get a dictionary =p

Everyone was introducing themselves until this dude spoiled the party!

I WAS ABOUT TO SAY MY NAME MAN!

joke. He's a very nice guy, Mr. Willie Chan =]

Owh and like I said,

THERES PLENTY OF US.

After his heart warming speech, the mic was passed on to another dude who I dont have his picture. These guys are the masters of Social man, they know some people just dont know how to interact with other people.

So he told us to stand up, raise our finger (NOT THE MIDDLE :P) and move around and say," I want to mingle mingle, I want to mingle mingle ".

It was awkward because it kinda felt abit lame =p=p=p but honestly it was fun man and it worked! Then, the DUDE WITH THE MIC ordered us to ...

Dyu see it? Every finger on bblue! He told us to put our finger on anything blue, den there was right knee on anything red!!

Afterwards, we got back into our groups with our group instructor. Group 3's instructor was 'SAM'. Each group were given a hula hoop.

Well from the picture you can observe that we all had to lift the hula hoop at the same speed and level until it was at its peak. It was tough at first, we because of ME=p
We made a record of lifting it for only 7 SECONDS!

Bet the other group werent even close to that! HAHA JOKE!

Kenny, group 3 OBS's leader, Huda again =p, PJ and Monil blocked by Yuan from China.

Our coachmates, group 4, yeaah the one with the tudong is Arifah =D

Owh and Ive said Singapore ACES before yes? Well these 'YELLOW' people are former Singaporean delegates whom have volunteered to come back and ACE - Assist, Coordinate and Enlighten the participants.

Yeap, there YELLOW =p

Afterwards, Idk about the other groups but Sam taught us some activities and this was awesome =D

We chose a partner and acted as a master and his puppet.

Theres Chenglo from Laos puppetting Allaen from the Philippines.

This dude here is the Chaperone of the Pihilippines.

On my first day there, I tried to introduce myself to as many delegates as I can and the Philippines were one of the delegates that I greeted. Well I had to, I got
HALF PINOY BLOOD IN ME =D

So I shook his hand with my forehead touching his hand and he was actually suprised to know that Bruneians custom of shaking hands with their elders are the same as theirs =D

Owh now U can see SAM teach us how to wear the ROCK CLIMBING equipments =D This guy is hilarious! I mean he could kick Russell Peters ASS out of the stand up business =P hahaha JOKE!

Not only that, he is TOUGH man! See his hands, NO??

How about now?

He aint six foot but he's got HANDS OF STEEL! No wonder Kessie from Cambodia was so near him =p haha=p

BTW, Rock Climbing actually helps make ur biceps grow bigger =D

Some of us were nervous, OKAY I WAS =P so IDK what this was for but he told us to do a Chicken dance =D

Thats Chirag from group 4. Well I think it looks like a Chicken =.="

The Chaperones 'NAIK BATU'

Dont be fooled, he didnt make it =p

HAHA joke! The chaperones were unlucky, they had to deal with the toughest rock climbing board.

But it wasnt just rock climbing yknow, there this logs arranged vertically and u had to climb to the topmost log.

Concept of going up is simple but DOING it AINT=p

Suhaimi was the Belay-er, the dude who holds the rope if someone falls.

Everyone has different techniques of reaching up

But the most important thing about this is that, you can only go up with help from your partner. This crap seriously emphasizes the importance of TEAMWORK.

Ouch! Balls crusher =p haaha

A glimpse of good teamwork=]

Just one more step to go and

They made it =]

Theres also different types of rock climbing like this one.

and one of the hardest craps there was this thing.

But eventhough it looks tough, most of them finished the challenges, these delegates are extremely FIT people unlike US BRUNEIANS=p

Kenny, our belayer =D

Like I said, I was actually nervous, we had to climb up toogether with our partner and make sure we reach up to the top together.

....................................................

This might be CORNY, but its real! =p

I was mid way up when suddenly, I slipped up and almost fell down, I was stuck there and my partner, Ranggi from Indonesia was faster than me. But then he stopped and I was nervous and he came down a little bit and said to me,

" Ya jim, kamu bisa, kita bisa jim!"

Sam actually told us that when he was a 'SKINNY' kid, he was afraid of climbing up but he made it in 30 minutes with the help of his friend encouraging him.

and just LIKE A DULL CAMPFIRE THAT JUST HAD GASOLINE THROWN ON IT, I EXPLODED!
I love Indonesia now =p except Vami Bambang=p ahah JOKE!
hahaa=p That simple encouragement helped me reach the top. Now thats real TEAMWORK man. Thanks Ranggi =]

Then, LUNCH =D

Afterwards, our group leaders were briefed and Kenny and Edmund our co-group 3 leaders told us that we had to build A RAFT.

To build a raft, we needed equipments.

To obtain these equipments, we needed points.

To gain these points, we needed to do some group activities and if we succeed them, we gain points.

The more points, the more stuff we can buy for our rafts =D

There was tons of activities,

We toss a ball.

Jump over ropes, sorry GROUP 3 and Kenny for letting you down on this one =(
Guess I wasnt as persistent as I thought I was, nevertheless, theres still much I need to learn =]

Well for me, this is the toughest. Seriously, jumping on ropes and making sure you and your friends do it at the same moment. I think we needed 8 clears and I think we got 8 clears after more than 30 attempts! haaha =p

This was fun =]

Its simple but you just needed to be cautious if your feet touched the ground, you have to start all over again =D

This was simple, each letter, or that colour thing on the floor must be occupied with altleaast one foot. It was simple but we were SLOW xD haah and didnnt finish this one.

Didnt matter aneway because by this time, we already got sufficient points to build our raft.

ROAR?

This was actually the most simplest activity.

We had to toss the ball to the person beside us (left) while catching the ball toss to us (right). We had to do it for three consecutive times.

EASY.

But we mustve attempted it almost 20 times. Again much time wasted =.="

Aneways, it turns out, we had the MOST POINTS than any other group but problem was, we were running out of time xD!

We quickly went to the equipment shop and build our raft.

It aint easy man, tying those ropes up and making sure they'll hold.

Hilmi seems to have experience in this. Actually this guy is really active, he used to be SM Sayyidina Othman, Tutong's Student Council President and he's a karate gold medalist in Brunei in the Belia Negara thing, I forgot the name =p and HE CAN DANCE!!! haha xD

Usulnya 1st time, macam serious =p tapii ... ahah =D

Hilmi is probably the dude that brought us Bruneian delegates closer together =]

NOT LITERALLY U DUMBASS=P

BTW DYU REALISE, I have used so little malay words in this post, well most probably this post will be read by the other Asian delegates so yeah, have to fully ENGLISH this post=p

and btw, I WANT TO GO TO LAOS.

.....................................................

WHY u asked? =p

grrrrrrrrROAR=p

Laos girls =]

haha joke=p Idk yeah but I think almost all the delegates that are chosen are also chosen for their physical appearance. I mean, being pretty and goodlooking is major boost =p No, seriously, like every girl from every country ROARS=p

or maybe its just my hormones =.=" haha =p

Aneways, after our raft got

KICKED, SLAMMED AND DROPPED to check if it was tight enough.

OUR RAFT WAS READY =DDDDDD

Sam helped us and u'd thought he'd just got HANDS OF STEEL but

Gila wah kakinya ah

I mean

translates to ENGLISH

He has horse like legs =p

Dyu see me??!!

Cann u see me?!?!

Cause I dont.

Carrying it to the coast.

Each group had to wait and take turns.

Thankfully, it wasnt a race.

Seriouskan usulnya =p

All we needed to do was row and row until we reaach this boat in the cold sea and hit it with the oar and head back to the coast.

Well afterwards, we took our shower, dressed up and got ready for dinner. Talorly, I forgot to bring extra short or pants and boxers =.=" My craps were soaked because we went in the water remember.

I didnt really have to tell you this but myte as well let u know =p

Luckily PJ borrowed HER extra shorts to me.

It was a bit tight though xD haahah =p

Then after dinner, we were all asked to gather around.

In the middle, Professor Leo Tan, the chairman of STEP, the guy responsible for SYC 2008 (Along with Willie Chan) lit up the campfire.

Again, Singaporeans are the master of oratory. I still remember him welcoming us with great warmth and love from his words =p and I remembered him saying that

"YEAH, this campfire causes pollution but tonight this fire is about that, this campfire symbolizes the strength and burning flame of each delegate's heart."

Well somethin like that, point is, it was good=p

Your depleting the ozone layer and melting the ice caps in Antartica and increasing the rate of Global Warming man!!!

haha.wth =p

Owh some lucky people had their birthdays on December =D

The SYC dont overlook this type of things =]

There you get to see Lo Zhi Zan in yellow, along with Christine Low, they are my favourite ACES =]
Then, yknow musical chair ryte? So this is the same except we passed a box to everyone. Whoever holds the box when the song ends, has to come forward with rest and dance xD.

Then, they opened the box and inside of em were ...
Idk what u call em in English but we call 'BUNGA API'. right??? =D

I mean this one bah =D

Another fun game was =
Every guy has to chose one girl. The girl stands infront and the guy at the back takes her hand and dances with her to the left and then to the right and she turns around and she is now behind the guy while a new girl is infront of the guy.
Get it?
Well this was how it goes,
"As we WALK to the left, as we WALK to the right, as we WALK as we WALK as we WALK all night and BLA BLA BLA ... "
Something lyke dat, but it was varied. It didnt just WALK, we even JUMP,SHAKE AND even CHACHA.

Them Singaporeans have a lot of songs man and oh yeah, actually otw to Pulau Ubin, in the bus the Singaporeans taught us the Singapore song.

The Singaporeans are in the middle teaching us the song and movement.
The main song sounds a bit corny buttt seriously, like everything in Singapore, its just great =]
"You can take a little trip around
Singapore town in a Singapore
City bus, to see the Kwai Le Ki
and Raffles Place, The Esplanade
and all of us.
(chorus)
Because in Singapore, Singapore
Our hearts are big and white you'll find
Because in Singapore, Singapore
You'll find happiness, for everyone."
Well something like that=p ahah thats the first verse, I forgot the other two verses xD
Owh and yeaas, the campfire and everything was just simply
BEAUTIFUL =]

Soon after, around 9pm, by ferry and bus we went back to the hotel and our rest that we so deeply craved. Seriously, it was tiring stuff with a one day full of activities but it every minute was awesome and I had a great time!
And to think that was just the second day!
I'll try to post day 3 and 4 as soon as I can yeah =]
aytee roar.
BTW,
results are out.
I shouldve work my ass off for last year's AS November =/
THATS IT! ROAR TIME! Im gonna ROAR for this years November!!! =]
